Assessment of genetic diversity on a sample of cocoa accessions resistant to witches' broom disease based on RAPD and pedigree data Bragantia
Santos,Ronaldo Carvalho dos; Pires,José Luís; Lopes,Uilson Vanderley; Gramacho,Karina Peres G.; Flores,Acassi Batista; Bahia,Rita de Cássia S.; Ramos,Helaine C. Cristine; Corrêa,Ronan Xavier; Ahnert,Dario.
Genetic diversity in cocoa (Theobroma cacao L.) has been assessed based on morphological and molecular markers for germplasm management and breeding purposes. Pedigree data is available in cocoa but it has not been used for assessing genetic relatedness. The geneitic diversity of 30 clonal cocoa accessions resistant to witche´ broom disease, from the CEPEC series, were studied on the basis of RAPD data and pedigree information. Twenty of these accessions descend from the TSA-644 clone, originated from a cross between the Upper Amazon germplasm called Scavina-6, the main source of resistance to witches' broom disease, and IMC-67. The ten remaining clones come from different sources including Amazon and Trinitario germplasm. RAPD data was collected using 16...

Genetic diversity among Brazilian soybean cultivars based on SSR loci and pedigree data BABT
Priolli,Regina Helena Geribello; Pinheiro,José Baldin; Zucchi,Maria Imaculada; Bajay,Miklos Maximiliano; Vello,Natal Antonio.
In this study, simple sequence repeats (SSR) loci and pedigree data were used to investigate the genetic relationship in a group of 168 Brazilian soybean cultivars. Eighteen SSR loci produced an average of 5.06 alleles and a mean gene diversity of 0.58 for the cultivars studied. Genetic distance (GD) was determined using the modified Roger's Wright distance, and a final dendrogram was in agreement with the cultivar pedigree. A distance matrix based on the coefficient of parentage scores was also generated for the cultivars, which ranged from 0 to 1, with a mean of 0.18, whereas SSR-based genetic similarity (1- GD) ranged from 0.01 to 0.90, with a mean of 0.25. Mantel's Z test showed that the similarity matrices generated from both the data sets were low,...

The genetic base of Brazilian soybean cultivars: evolution over time and breeding implications Genet. Mol. Biol.
Wysmierski,Philip Traldi; Vello,Natal Antonio.
Genetic diversity is essential for crop breeding and one way to estimate it is through the concept of genetic base, which can be defined as the number of ancestors and their relative genetic contributions (RGC) to each cultivar. The RGC can be estimated through the coefficient of parentage between the ancestors and cultivars. Previous studies determined that the genetic base of Brazilian soybean was very narrow. The objective of this work was to evaluate the pedigree of 444 Brazilian soybean cultivars to estimate their genetic base. The cultivars were divided according to their release dates and according to their origin (public or private), and the genetic base for each group was also estimated. We found 60 ancestors, of which the top four (CNS, S-100,...

ความหลากหลายและสัมพันธ์ทางพันธุกรรมระหว่างอ้อยพันธุ์การค้าในประเทศไทย Thai Agricultural
Chaba Thongpaiyai; Anucha Wongpraneekul; Prasert Chatwachirawong.
Objective of this study was conducted to determine the diversity and relationships among commercial sugarcane varieties in Thailand. The pedigree in each variety was traced back to the original ancestors. The coefficient of parentage was calculated from records of 70 varieties, and a dendrogram was drawn using the unweighted pair-group method using arithmetic averages (UPGMA) of clustering. Pedigree data showed that Thai commercial varieties were only bred from 26 exotic varieties. The analytical results indicated that many sugarcane varieties had higher close relationship with OCSB3 (37.3%) than UT1 (20.4%). S. officinarum was major genetic contributor (25.1%) whereas S. barberi, S. spontaneum, and S. sinense were 10.8, 5.9, and 2.4%, respectively. These...
